Questions about a Hawaiʻi County booking belong with the office that created or holds the record. This private reference service can point to the right HPD, DCR, jail, court, or federal contact, but it is not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, or pull an official booking record.

Hawaiʻi County Busted Mugshots is a private reference service. It cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, change a booking entry, release a person, post bond, or retrieve an official record. Contact the originating government office directly.

Start with the Right Office

Hawaiʻi County has no county sheriff's office operating the booking roster. HPD is the countywide police agency. HCCC is operated by DCR. The court handles the case after booking. Use the contact that matches the question rather than calling one office for every record.

HPD's station directory lists district addresses and service numbers. Hilo Records is listed with hours of 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Kona records is listed with hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Other stations are generally listed as 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Confirm the current function before traveling, especially for Pāhoa where the public pages list different numbers.

Where to Look for Each Need

The correct route depends on whether the person was recently arrested, remains in custody, has entered state supervision, or has a later court case.

  • For a recent arrest or booking photo, use the Hawaiʻi County booking and records path. HPD's public PDF has no photo, so request an image from Records and Identification if releasable.
  • For a current Hilo police-cellblock question, call the Hilo cellblock or arrested-adult line. For Kona, use the West Hawaiʻi and Kona extension.
  • For DCR custody or supervision, search DCR SAVIN/VINELink. It provides status and notifications, not a public booking photo.
  • For a court case, search Third Circuit eCourt Kōkua or call Hilo or Kona legal-document staff.
  • For a wanted-person tip, use HPD Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300. For immediate danger, call 911. Do not approach a person named in a police notice.
  • For a state prison or federal record, keep the question separate from a county booking. Use DCR, the BOP locator, the ICE locator, or USMS as appropriate.
  • For a correction or expungement, contact the agency, court, or HCJDC route that controls the record. A private publisher cannot change the official case.

Records Request Details

HPD's police-report instructions state a general fee of $1.00 for the first page and $0.10 for each additional page, cash only, with a ten-business-day response target. The page does not publish a separate booking-photo fee. A written request should identify the full name, arrest date and time, location or district, report number or OTN if known, and the exact report or photograph sought.

Ask the custodian to identify any redaction or withholding basis. HPD may limit criminal complete reports while a case is open, and juvenile, personal, medical, financial, or active-investigation details may be protected. DCR requests should identify HCCC or the relevant facility, person, offender or case number, date range, and record type. A request for a copy is not a request to seal or expunge a record.
